Internet and Education

The internet has changed education immensely. I graduated high school in 1998 and attended classes at Mass Bay Community College. I studied auto mechanics because at the time I was a mechanic. I worked many hours a week because I purchased a 2 family and needed to pay the mortgage. Attending classes in person became hard. When I found out I was accepted into the Police Academy, there was no possible way I could attend classes. The academy is very strenuous and extremely long hours. I wanted a Bachelors degree but in my line of work, there is no set schedule. I could not commit to classes with a set schedule because my work schedule is 4 days on and 2 days off which means I am on a 6 week rotating schedule. My partner told me about UMass Lowell's online program. It is great. The internet allows me to work my normal schedule and to attend classes at my convenience. I get to log in whenever I want and do my work. I can communicate with my peers who I never met face to face. I have taken 6 classes and its been great. I wish I knew about this program earlier because I am not too young (30).
