Web application
My idea for a web application is to have a site with codes to program any type of remote to any type of device. This will eliminate the need to keep any manuals. If you bought a new tv you just plug in the codes from the internet. If you get a new heating system, you can look up the code on the internet. This would be a one stop shop site for all manuals.
jQuery
I found this exercie to be really difficult. I can't get my sentence to drag and I am not sure why. I tried to do the assignmet 4 times. I decided to post what I have and see if anyone can comment on what I did wrong. Anyone?

Javascript
Writing a javascript code was fairly easy. I think it helped that I could copy and paste the document. THe reason being that sometimes I miss certain symbols and then it takes me a really long time to fix the error. The copy and pasting helped big. I didn't realize it was that easy to create a webpage.
Website idea
Here is my site http://ceweb.uml.edu/Ssten18456/
I would like to see a website where you could see how diving was in all parts of the world. For instance, if i wanted to go to Bali, I could go to this site and see a video of someone who has actually dived there. This would help me get a better understanding of visibility and what types of sea urgents live there.

CSS
This week's exercise I found more challenging. The reason being that when you code a webpage you must pay close attention to detail. Sometimes I miss a little period or a < and it messes everything up. The problem is that it usually takes me so long to find the error and it frustrates me. If I was careful and knew how to look for errors, this exercise would have been easy but for me it was not.

This Weekend
I have nothing interesting to blog about this weekend because I dont have any plans. I am looking forward to not doing anything because I have been really busy recently. I am working on Friday and Saturday night. I will come from work on Saturday and catch up some sleep. Sunday I plan to order pizza and wings and to watch football on my couch all day. I may hang out with my friends Sunday night. Sunday nights are big night outs in Roslindale.

Running
Tomorrow I am running in a 10k Road Race to support the Boston FireFighters. 10k may seem small to some but I have not run that since the Police Academy in 2006. I am looking forward to the event but I hope I can finish it without embarassing myself. I enjoy running. I used to run but then I stopped. I just started getting back into it this past month. If all goes well in the next 6 months, I might try to run the Boston Marathon.
Creating Forms
I created a form from JotForm.com and uploaded it to my website. I found this exercise to be extremely easy. It was actually my favorite exercise. I didn't realize how easy it was to create a form. Please check my form out and rate me.

Craigslist
Craigslist is an online marketplace where people can buy and sell items or services. One can find an apartmnet to rent, a car, a job, or tickets. I like how the site breaks the items by the area designated. Craigslist has caused some problems though. Some people post items for sale and when you go to look at them, the item is not there and the "seller" plans on robbing you. It is also scary because Philip Markoff used it to kill women he found on the site advertising for massages. If everyone uses the site the way it should be used, it is genius.

Kodak Gallery
A web application I use frequently is Kodak Gallery. I take digital pictures and upload them to my computer and onto the web application as back up. I use this web application as a backup in case my computer crashes. The pictures are easier to access on the web at any given time. Once I upload them to the web application, I can share them with family and friends through email. It is good to have an account because if someone shares photos with you, their album will be stored in your gallery forever. That feature is particularly good for me because my family emails me pictures all the time. I am an uncle to 4 girls and 2 boys all under the age of 7. My family is constantly snapping photos of them and emailing me. Now the albums which date back years are stored on my “friend’s gallery.”
Another great feature is that you can create projects. You can make t-shirts, calendars, collages, or simply buy prints. Personally, I don’t use this feature but my sisters have made my Mom some nice calendars of the kids.
The site makes managing photos a lot easier. You don’t have to drop film off to be developed, wait 2 days, and then pay for prints that you do not like. Once uploaded to Kodak gallery, you can choose to have your photo printed a local cvs for pickup or mailed to your house (I am not fortunate to have a printer).

Red Sox
Last night I went to the Red Sox game. They were scheduled to play the Yankees but the rain prevented it. I was there for 4 hours. Luckily my seats were in the State Street Pavillion so I stayed dry but I spent a lot of money on food and drinks. Now I have to go back tonight and do the same thing because the game is at 9pm. Hope the Red Sox win and prevent the Yankees from clenching 1st place.
Midterm
This blog is for a class at UMass Lowell. I am taking a class and had a midterm to do. The midterm took me over 12 hours to complete. It wasn't hard but there were so many steps and you had to pay close attention to detail. I hope I passed!

Scubadiving
I really enjoy scubadiving. I first because certified in 2009 before a trip to Mexico. I went with my girlfriend but she does not scubadive so I had to go with an insstructor. Supposedly the Mayan Riviera is supposed to have the 2nd best coral reef for scubadiving. During my trip I had to dive for a total of 16 hours in order to become certified in open waters. It was amazing. The visibility was insane. Then in Februray 2010 I went to Bahamas and dived. It was not as nice as Mexico. I only dove for 8 hours on this trip. It was nice but not nearly as nice as Mexico. I did however see a hammer head shark. The diving instructor said he had never seen one in all of his years. For 2011 I am looking for a new vacation. My girlfriend wants to go to Costa Rica but I do not know much about it. Does anyone out there have any advice on scubadiving in Costa Rica? Any insights are appreciated!
Internet and the Media
The internet has hugely impacted the way media reports news. Before tv and computers, people discovered what was happening in current events through print. There was most likely a 24 hour time delay unless a special edition was printed. Most found out about the event after the fact. Then came tv which reported the news in a more timely fashion because there was the morning news, the midday news, and the evening news. The one stipulation about the tv was you had to be near one. Now you can watch the news from your desk at work through the computer. As everything this can be good and it can be bad. It is good because it is convenient and timely. You can download video clips which can be live. For example, you could watch the President's inagguration from your computer live. The bad effect is that newspaper companies lost a lot of money causing people to lose their jobs. Many of the people that work for the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe have been in the warehouses for years and that is one of the only traits they know so that can hurt them. This subject hits me personally because a lot of the males in my family worked in the newspaper factory. When I was 18 I worked there for a couple of weeks but left because it bored me. People criticized me because they suppoosedly once you were hired "it was a job for life" and I left it. No one realized what the internet would do to the newspaper industry and luckily it never affected my job role. Unfortunetly it has affected some of my family members

What I did today
So I was away for 2 weeks and when I came back I found mouse droppings in my kitchen. I own a 2 family house and the tenants downstairs reporteded that they saw a mouse. I set traps and cleaned but today I was determined to find out how they were entering the house. I searched inside the house and filled in any small openeings and then I ventured outside. I found a basement window with a rotted sill, so I removed the rotted window and poured new concrete. I placed ply wood over the opening until I have money to purchase a new window. I also mortered all the holes in the fieldstone foundation to prevent any new critters from coming. Hope this works!
My thoughts on the Internet
I really like the internet because it is very convenient and easy. I can communicate with anyone with an email address (which is basically everyone except my dad.) Because of my bizarre work schedule the internet has allowed me to stay connected with friends and family. People email about certain events and friends can email me about my fantasy football team. With all this being said, I am not part of any social networking sites. For the purpose of this class I will create profiles with an alias and post the name to this blog once they are completed. Maybe I am old school but I think social network sites are creepy. I dont want my 2nd teacher knowing that I am vacationing in Hawaii or my my Mom's neighbor knowing that I walked the dog today. Once I join twitter, facebook, and linked in, I will post the my names here.

Adding Images to a Blog Post
I love the Red Sox and I am from Boston. What better way to represent the "Dirty Water City" than the Boston "B".
Links to dogs that interest me
I am on the hunt for a new dog. I love mastiffs but I want a mixed breed. Below are links to three breeds. Post comments if you have any knowledge of them.

Internet and Education
The internet has changed education immensely. I graduated high school in 1998 and attended classes at Mass Bay Community College. I studied auto mechanics because at the time I was a mechanic. I worked many hours a week because I purchased a 2 family and needed to pay the mortgage. Attending classes in person became hard. When I found out I was accepted into the Police Academy, there was no possible way I could attend classes. The academy is very strenuous and extremely long hours. I wanted a Bachelors degree but in my line of work, there is no set schedule. I could not commit to classes with a set schedule because my work schedule is 4 days on and 2 days off which means I am on a 6 week rotating schedule. My partner told me about UMass Lowell's online program. It is great. The internet allows me to work my normal schedule and to attend classes at my convenience. I get to log in whenever I want and do my work. I can communicate with my peers who I never met face to face. I have taken 6 classes and its been great. I wish I knew about this program earlier because I am not too young (30).
Course Expectations
I expect to gain a better understanding of the internet. Even in week 2 I have learned something. I had no idea that the internet existed for many years for governmental use. I am not very familiar with computers so I also hope that my navigating skills enhance. The only time I blog is ask information on cars. I dont go to a specific blog, I google a question and then post it on a forum. Then I check back to see if my question was answered. I have only blogged twice in my life so I dont have any likes or dislikes.
I am looking to get a dog soon. I want a mastiff mix. I don't have much information on the breed so I would be interested in any feedback if anyone does have knowledge. I love to scuba dive. I have only been to the Mayan Riviera and Nassau, Bahamas. I would like anyone to post other great places to scuba dive so I can plan a future vacation.
I am not too technological savvy. I do not have facebook or twitter. I only use the internet for email, to ask car questions, or to look for items for sale on craigslist. I also search for real estate listings because I hope to buy houses shortly.
